The film ends with Arthur and Guinevere's marriage. Merlin then proclaims him to be their king. In the movie, it seems most of things is Arthur’s idea. He is a guy who has great leadership, powerful, seeking of freedom, doesn’t want to be controlled by others. As a main character of the legend, he will never die (at least he will not die in the fight). He is born for fighting: the perfect planning, heroic war fighter, doesn’t care about himself, but sad of friend’s death—the importance of friendship.

The story in the book Sir Thomas Malory, it is more about how Arthur starts his life. He has a knight, just a knight. He hadn’t known his special birth. He didn’t plan to pull out the sword, just to help his friend. All these things are the indicates of his future—he will not be a normal person, he must do something that may affect the world. In the story, he is brave—help his friends, does what he wants and doesn’t care of the power (from archbishop) .

The last thing about King Arthur is his rules of the Knights of the Round table.

The rules of the knights must fit King Arthur himself. He is the leader of this knights group, if he can’t fit these rules, how can other people follow him without complaining?

These rules are the good explanation of the characters of King Arthur. He is a great soldier follow the moral that never murder people—kill people without any reasons. It is hard to see especially during the war time. During Vietnam War, soldiers were always attacked by Vietnamese, the soldiers started to kill the citizens because they didn’t know who the enemy is and who is not and they are really afraid to be killed.

“Always to flee treason” is totally different from Chinese culture. It is hard for me to believe that is the rule. In old time, usually heroes are people who never flee their country no matter how bad their country is or how stupid their emperors are, they insist to fight for their country until they die. This rule is to let the knights more thing about the truth instead of follow the power blindly.

“To by no means be cruel but to give mercy unto him who asks for mercy” this one is the way to be a good person, not a soldier or knight, but it is much more important.

“To always do ladies, gentlewomen and widows succor. To never force ladies, gentlewomen or widows” Also these two are the rules to ladies. Especially in ancient time, men regard women as their things just like their clothes. Men own women and they can do whatever they want to women. But King Arthur respect women. Maybe that is how he became a great king, his gentle gave him lots of support from people.

“Not to take up battles in wrongful quarrels for love or worldly goods” It is much different from what I knew before. Sparta’s king took up battle to Troy because the prince of Troy took his queen Helen away. It is the unnecessary battle and that is definitely a wrong battle for King Arthur (I don’t mean King Arthur is in the battle, just compare this battle with his rules of the knights) 。I always think old time people are stupid because they always have battle which is caused by small things, these kind things you can find a lot in Chinese history. But King Arthur is a special old person that he thinks more about the whole country and maybe that is how he became the great king but not like other countries during that period of time were destroyed because of all these unnecessary battles.
