similar thing happened to me 3 years ago, I spent 8 days in the hospital lucky my uni covered most of the expenses. Get well soon.
I was talking with Lance about Henry (Hal to his friends) about other things we could do to help.
Lancer and Hal have done work together. Hal's an independent film producer/editor (worked for BBC in the past) and they finished a science fiction film script together which Hal is animating. And Hal is a devoted Trekkie (2010/12/29/why-trekkies-hated-the-09-star-trek-movie/), so this puts Hal in a very special place in my piston-and-steam robot heart.
Therefore, Saturday May 26th, we're going to throw an all day party at Angry Robot Coffee to raise money to help him out. (All proceeds/earnings go to Hal's medical bills.)
Lance and I will be posting more information on this comment thread about details. If you can help contribute to make this as successful as possible so Hal and his wife can pay for their medical care, please contact Lance at: 18606926591.
We should all help this very cool human out!
A nickname of good humor. Hmmmmmm depends on how its used, I think.
Any news on finding the driver of the car. Or just no luck.
Of course this is aweful. But lets not just comment on how aweful and talk about the driver bitching about some laowei getting in his way. There is something WE all can do to help things along by being a bit of an angry robot. The next time YOUR taxi driver starts honking and driving agressively at people on the crosswalk or flashing lights and honking because someone else is on the road ahead of him, tell him to stop it. "Bu4 Xing2" (bad) "Kai1Le Wen2Ming2"(drive civilized).
If you sit in the cab and turn a blind eye to bad behavior, you're giving sanction by not protesting. You the customer, use your power.
Foreigners;"laowai"(a good humoured nickname for foreigners, especially westerners)
...oh... definitely a racist...
Use of the word laowai in this headline is racist. Thats a big problem here is the racist thinking through out the population and obviously the government. "A laowai" is like referring to a thing or animal. Which again the Chinese have no problem with. No wonder its getting less and less friendly here as the Chinese show their true selves unable to hide it due to extreme ignorance. Its my guess that the police will be unable to find this driver. For not only is this man a "laowai" also he is "American" to boot.
Laowai is the term of foreigner for them..... though it's sounds saliva to me (for filipinos it's "laway" means saliva)...lol
Hope he will be in great condition and strong enough to face all the obstacle in life.
And about the driver.... karma is right besides him!
Hope guy will recover soon!
It's absolutely deplorable, like all such traffic stories we hear every month or so. He's been through enough hardship already and look what luck throws at him. I hope they catch the scumbag runaway too.
I know him personally, he's an absolutely great person who really cares for his wife; hard to imagine a more caring, pleasant and bubbly guy to be around. He's hoping he recovers soon.
