Long entry + loads of photos ahead!!
Day 1-15th Jan.
Took the morning flight 8 a.m. out of Singapore and headed to HK on Cathay Pacific! Hong Kong!! I haven't been there in my entire life before! (save a short 2 hour stay at the airport for a transit flight). Always heard loads about the food and shopping... and man it was good!! Once we reached, we bought an Airport Express ticket and headed to Hongkong Island (for the benefit of those who have no idea of the geographical set up of HK, it mainly consist of three parts (Lantau Island-where the airport is, Hong Kong Island, and Kowloon, New Territories area) where our hotel is located. Wasting no time at all, we headed to conquer the shopping/city district of that area (Central, Wanchai, Causeway Bay etc..)we walked and shopped and ate... in that order.. and our cantonese was tested to the max! Mine was horrible as you would know.. luckily Gen's one was passable. One testimony to the spending power of mainland China was that when we walked into the high-end designer shops, we saw loads and loads of PRCs there! We kinda thought it would be just HK ex-pats plus the ang mohs.. but yeah.. looks like times have really changed and China is really getting rich! N speaking of shopping, the high-end stuff is much cheaper and much more variety here! For instance, there's only one outlet of Versace in Singapore, and even then they don't sell male clothes anymore, plus very little variety on things.. in HK.. we bumped into at least FOUR Versace shops.. all much larger and def. much more variety! Like.. heaven to shopperholics la!!
Day 2-16th Jan
Went to visit Ocean Park and The Peak! Ocean Park is something like a place where they display animals as well as having rollercoaster rides. The panda was damn cute la!! We also caught some sea lions, fishes etc etc.. and the roller coasters.. we tried most of them.. the Abyss (deadfall) was like damn fun! (though damn scary when we were so high up and had no idea when the machine will just suddenly bring us down!).. We then headed to The Peak, where the view of the city was just fantastic! Managed to catch the sunrise too! Then headed to Madame Tussades...
Day 3-17th Jan
Headed to MACAU!!! Woohoo!! We had to get up early for this one though! Wanted to maximise the time there! Plus it's a 1 hour boat ride over! Once there.. we headed to the cultural heritage area... where much evidence of Macau once being a colony of Portugal is still visible. We tride this buffalo tau hui thingy.. which was actually quite good. Saw some ruins of an old church, as well as a fort. We then headed to meet Gen's relatives, which brought us to this local authentic Portugal Rest. and man the steak was DAMN good la!! Prob. one of the best if not the best steak I've eaten!!! We then headed to visit this Ma Zhu Temple, where we were lucky enough to see firecrackers going off! Then to the Maritime museum, where we got to know more about Zhang He and different types of ships being used in the part centuries. Gen's relative then brought us to a famous roadside stall selling the local Pork Buns, and Egg Tarts.. and man was delicious!! We then visited the Venetian Hotel.. which was damn HUGE and grand! They had everything! Casino, loads and loads of shops, and even a river in the shopping mall itself! We then headed to this place where Gen's aunt recommended for it's famous crab porridge! N man it didn't disappoint!! As you can see.. we mainly go Macau to eat eat eat and eat la! But was good food man! No regrets!
Day 4-18th Jan!
Headed to Kowloon area (via ferry-5 mins!) for some shopping! The original destination was Nu Ren Jie but we made a slight detour at a high end design shopping centre.. but well, Nu Ren Jie was really full of girls stuff! From bags to clothes to shoes to accessories to.. well.. u get the idea.. and this is when the bargaining skills come into full force! I must say among the 4 of us, Gen's the best at bargaining.. managing to reduce original prices to like 1/3 of it! N even then she still thinks it's too much la! We then headed to the Avenue Of Stars area, where there were loads of handprints of famous actors/actresses, singers etc... such as Bruce Lee, Jacky Cheung blah blah blah... one more thing, the view of Hong Kong Island from Kowloon was damn nice la! We managed to catch a short demonstration called "Symphony of Lights" in the night, where various buildings light up different colours of lights at a choreographed timing.. damn beautiful...
Day 5-19th Jan!
Didn't have time to do much.. plan was at 11.45 am back to Singapore.. so had to check in early. N we realised that we actually didn't need to go to the airport all the way to check in our bags, we could just do it at the Airport Express train station! Which is really damn shiok! I reached the airport way earlier than expected, which might be a good thing cos I FINALLY found time to do my homework for my class later! (7-10 pm)..in the end I was ALMOST late for boarding la... around 10ish I went in, wanting to just find a place to order a cup of tea, sit down and people watch, in the end i got sucked into shopping (again!)...
Overall this trip was really FANTASTIC!! After trying all the food here...somehow I don't think Singapore chinese food is that good anymore.. lol... now I can really imagine when the HK people went UWA to study how they feel when they say they really miss the food back home.. cos it's really fantastic!
Hope for another one!
